Boko Haram fighters attacked the village of Charkamari, 7 kilometers from the town of Mora, capital of the Mayo Sava department, in the Far North region. The jihadists infiltrated the village in the night of Thursday to Friday, aboard a vehicle and several motorcycles.

The attackers then set fire to homes, according to testimonies. Killing at least 11 civilians, according to a provisional and unofficial report. The victims, including children and elderly people, were mostly killed by the flames.

"They entered our village and sacked our houses. They fired point-blank at some people, especially the men who could resist them. They then set fire to our houses, more than 20 of which left in flames, "said Inoua, a village official, quoted by the pan-African press agency.

Alerted by the population, Multinational Joint Force (MMF) soldiers fighting Boko Haram arrived in Charkamari after the attackers fled to neighboring Nigeria, from where they arrived.
